Licenced Legal Practitioners
the law in Malawi. A legal practitioner means a person who has been admitted to practice the profession of the law before a court and whose name has been inscribed on the Roll. A legal practitioner who is obtaining a licence for the first time is required to produce a certificate to practice issued by the High Court. The legal practitioner also pays a fee determined by the MLS from time to time. For the 2025/2026 practice year, the fee is MK435,000.00.00.
Every licence to practice expires on 31st January of the following year after the date of its issue. A legal practitioner whose licence has expired and is desirous of practising thereafter renews his licence on payment of the relevant fee determined by the MLS and upon meeting other statutory requirements. MLS has at least 763 licenced legal practitioners for the 2025/2026 practice year. Click here to check if a member is licenced.
