Public Statement and Recommendations of The Malawi Law Society to Members of Parliament Concerning the Judicial Reform Bills Now Pending Debate Before the National Assembly

In line with its mandate under section 64 of the Legal Education and Legal Practitioners Act, 2017 the Malawi Law Society, has been making efforts to contribute to the improvements in the delivery of justice in Malawi. The Society has since May, 2023 been championing the tabling and passing of the Judicial Reform Bills in Parliament.

On 15th November 2024, the Ministry of Justice published the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Judicial Service Administration Bill, 2024 and the Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Judicial Reform Bills are set to be tabled before the 50th sitting of the National Assembly. To lobby for the passing of the Judicial Reform Bills, the Society on the 16th of December held a Press Briefing and issued a Public Statement containing a review of the Judicial Reform Bills and the Society’s proposals and recommendations.  The Public Statement was also published in the Daily Times Newspaper on 17th December 2024.
